When driving into the city after a five hour bus ride, the first thing that hit us was how clean and modern it looked, especially in comparison with the parts of Asia we have already been to... It was a bit like walking into a time machine and seeing the future. We met an English couple, Emma and Adam, on the bus, who said they were heading towards Chinatown in search of the 'Bird Nest' -- a small traveller friendly guest house in the heart of Chinatown. We knew we wanted to head in the same direction, so upon exiting the bus we shared a taxi in what we hoped was the right direction. We arrived in Chinatown and with some help from passing locals managed to find the right hostel. It was clean enough and the other travellers were almost too friendly, so we took the only two rooms left -- the most expensive rooms they had -- and made ourselves at home. On our first night in Kuala Lumpur we accompanied Adam and Emma in search of 'Little India' for a good curry, and by using the Menara Tower as a point for navigation and with some more help from the locals we managed to find a decent curry house.
